DSI: Field Study Placements

In the DSI track, students must complete 4 terms of field study (FHS 472 + 473). The first term of the 4-term sequence involves a seminar, entitled “Introduction to DSI Field Study,” where students examine and discuss such topics as 1) Essential aspects of field study, 2) How to make the most of the field study experience, and 3) How to locate and sign-up for a field site. Please see the flowchart below for more information. For Spring 2026, new DSI students will enroll in FHS 410 and one section of FHS 473.

Remaining in the DSI track is contingent on the COE background check clearance. We cannot clear you to register for FHS 472 or 473 for the following fall term until COE Placements receives your cleared background check. During the following 3 terms, DSI students have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience and training within Human Service agencies in the community. Please follow the process outlined on the Continuing DSI Students flowchart to sign up for another term at your current site or to sign up for a new site.
